Navigation Lights

Navigation lights must be shown on boats operating between sunset and sunrise, in restricted visibility or even during low light conditions during the day. Lights are important as they indicate the size of the boat, the angle you see them from, the direction the boat is travelling and whether the boat is moving or anchored.

Regulations apply for both personal and commercial boats but differ depending on which state or territory you live in.  Check the navigation lights legislation to understand the requirements in your state or territory.
